The output resolution would be for an old monitor and the resolution of the output of a DVD for television are very different, I say it's unlikely that you could learn to work together.

A signal from the computer and video signals are different signals. It requires some electronics to do extra work. The only additional cost is worth to buy a TV or a computer connected to the monitor.
